A Laurinburg man faces charges stemming from a traffic crash that claimed the life of an older man operating a moped, according to the NC State Highway Patrol.

Kendrick Floyd Quick, 21, of 12828 Pea Bridge Road, Laurinburg, has been charged with improper passing and misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle, following an accident that led to the death of a Gibson man, the Highway Patrol reported.

John Lewis Bostic, 60, of Gibson, was killed in the collision at the intersection of Highway 381 and Scholl Shankle Road in Hamlet, around 8 a.m. on Nov. 27, according to the Highway Patrol.

The two were both traveling northbound on Highway 381 when Bostic, on a moped, attempted to make a left turn onto Scholl Shankle Road, according to the accident report filed by Trooper Justin Garner. At the same time Quick, in a 2009 Pontiac sedan, began to pass Bostic in a no-passing zone and struck the motorized bicycle, the accident report said. The two vehicles came to rest off the southbound shoulder of Highway 381, lawmen said.
