Dear Editor,

After the episode in Connecticut last week, I would like to bring to everyone’s attention the security at one elementary school here in Richmond County.

The school nurse called and asked someone to pick up my grandson since he was sick. My husband and I went to get him since his mother wasn’t available. My husband walked into the office and told the lady behind the desk he was there to pick him up. She never ask him for any ID to see if he was one of the contacts that had permission to get him. She didn’t even hardly look up to see if he needed help.

He could have been anyone. He could have been someone who wasn’t suppose to get him. I was very upset regarding this. I was under the impression you had to be on a list as one allowed to get them out of school and an ID should be checked.

I hope this person will check next time. What if it was someone who did not have permission and was sent from school with the wrong person?

Mrs. Avant, Did the school call the wal-mart and announce your grandson was sick over the speakers? If not, who would know he needed to be picked up except someone on his call list. You have to sign a student in and out of school. Please don't start the blame game.
