The first baby of Richmond County was born three days after the start of the new year.
The baby boy was born on Friday at 8:54 p.m. at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Karter Sincere Ingram weighed in at five pounds ten ounces and measured 18 inches long.
The proud parents of the little boy are Shaniqua Bennett and Kendall Ingram. They are both from Anson County and travelled to Richmond County because Bennett said there is not a pediatric wing in Anson Community Hospital.
Karter was delivered through Cesarean section by Dr. Yakubu and registered nurse Judith Adeimy, a hospital spokesperson said.
She had multiple nurses throughout her stay at the hospital, the spokesperson said.
Bennett said that Karter is a sleepy baby and does not cry much. She also said that everything has been good so far.
When asked about her hopes for the future for her baby, Bennett said she hopes “for him to be successful.” Ingram said he hopes “for the best.”
A gift basket that was put together by the gift shop was given to the new mom. Emily Sloan, Assistant Director of Public Relations at the hospital, said that the basket held baby care items including pacifiers, baby toys, and a picture frame.
Sloan said the hospital has been recognizing the first baby of the New Year for at least 12 years, when Richmond Memorial Hospital joined with FirstHealth in 2001.
Both parents appeared happy and proud of their new baby and eager to take on the challenges and joys of the years ahead.
Bennett was discharged from the Hospital on Monday.
