Anson County will have its 3rd annual Catfish Stew Cookoff at Hatcher Park in Lilesville, from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

All cooks who enjoy a challenge are encourage to attend the search to find out who is really the best. The stew will be judged by a new select panel of judges and a champion will be crowned.

If you’re not interested in spending the day cooking, you can join the fun and root for your favorite team. You can also try your hand at being a judge. For the cost of $5, pick up a bowl and spoon and sample a taste of each entry and compare your selection with that of the official judges.

Rules and entry forms can be found at Scotty’s Bait and Tackle, Lilesville Town Hall, Whit’s Convenience, Knott’s and The Old Store.

New to the event this year will be vendor booths. Call if you are interested in setting up a booth for only $10. Rules and guidelines will also be available at the Town Hall. Spaces are limited so reserve a spot soon. No food vendors will be allowed.

The day will also provide entertainment such as giant slides and fun for all ages. Special singing T-shirts will be for sale as well. The crowning of Miss Catfish and Master Catfish will take place.

Kids will be able to participate in the festivities by competing. Girls ages 5 through 6th grade can compete in the best colored catfish, while boys ages 5 through 6th grade will compete in writing an essay on how to catch the best catfish.
