To the editor:

This is a simple request to the Sept. 27 correspondent who is photographing Trump signs for a ‘memory book’ of some description. Please don’t. There is not a Trump sign in my yard; nor will there be. But it is intrusive enough that we are recorded, photographed, metal-detected, information-captured, and otherwise surveilled nearly everywhere we go in our society without the creepy specter of a stranger taking snapshots of personal lawn signs.

I do not know the motivations behind the placement of any yard sign, but I am happy to assume that most of those folks are good citizens who simply wish to express an opinion. The correspondent is clearly not a supporter of Mr. Trump’s, and would do better to take heart from both candidates’ performances in the Sept. 26 debate and just let his campaign run its course.

Finally, to anyone whose candidate loses on Nov. 8, please take the approach that has traditionally made this country great with this advice: I will support the winner the best that I can, respectfully oppose him or her to the extent that I must, and honestly strive for a better America.
