To the editor:

With all the controversy over HB2 that has been all over the news, I thought that another perspective might be worth sharing. The political and economic impacts are being discussed, but what about the religious aspect of the bill?

Let me begin by saying I know what the Bible says about homosexuality and similar topics. I’m not going to argue that point. But it seems to me that the supporters of the bill, and a good many Christian folks, seem to forget parts of the Scriptures that would point out the love Jesus had for ALL people.

Discrimination and looking down on others was not part of Jesus’ mission on this earth. Jesus didn’t turn away from the lepers, the woman with the issue of blood or any other poor soul who came to Him for help. These were the people He really tried to help the most. They weren’t shunned because they were different from everyone else.

It is my hope that the Christian community supporting HB2 will pray about the full extent of how it discriminates against the LGBT community and others who are “different” from what is considered “normal” society.

If they. and the lawmakers who think they know what is “right” for all of us, do not have a soul-searching moment and reflect on this issue, then they are no better than all the other hate groups that have spread evil messages throughout history. And that would, indeed, be a sad statement on the world in which we live!
