To the editor:

I enjoyed reading Bellonora McCallum’s columns on domestic violence last month. In our public service, we try to help abusers with the Bible. For example, a former abuser made the change 25 years ago by following the advice in 1 Peter 3:7 and showed his wife “honor.”

Galatians 5:23 encouraged him to exercise “mildness” and “self-control.” He applied Ephesians 4:31 which condemns “abusive speech.” He realized that Hebrews 4:13 says that “all things are…openly exposed” to God. He also had to change his associates. (1 Corintians 15:33)

It is not easy to stop domestic violence, but it can be done.
