To the editor:

Every month when I write out our bills, I send a small check to our Richmond County Animal Shelter. It’s a small amount, only $25; a fixed income doesn’t allow for much.

I realize that most of us have little or no extra money due to our economy, higher food costs, home and car insurances up, cable cost are huge. My medical bills are higher than ever; God only knows how we’ll pay if we have another serious illness. But our animal shelter simply does not get enough money to care for all the animals they get.

If people were better pet owners and would care for their animals more responsibly, our county shelter would be able to give the needed care to more animals without the staff putting bills on their private credit cards. Please send what you can every month. Even if it is only $10, it will mount up if enough give.
