On proposed Hamlet zoning regulations that would define a pool and set barrier requirements for pools in the city limits:

It’s stupid — a 4-foot pool requires a 4-foot fence so people can’t get in! Really, so someone can climb into my pool (ladder is removed) but not over a fence? This pisses me off. They say they’re worried about someone drowning in the pool? Well, if the people wouldn’t trespass on my property, they wouldn’t drown.

Katie Miller

When I lived in Hamlet, they sent us a notice to put up a fence for 26-inch kiddie pool. The city was riding by our house continuously for days checking to see if we were going to put up a fence. If you buy a home in Hamlet and you want to put a pool up without a fence, that is your right. If someone gets in your pool and drowns, they should not be trespassing. Last time I checked, trespassing is a violation of the law and not putting up a fence around your pool is not breaking the law. The city of Hamlet needs to stay out of people’s lives if they are not breaking the law. Glad we don’t live there anymore.

Joey Lassiter

This seems a bit backward to me. I don’t understand why a “temporary” vinyl pool would require a fence, but a “permanent” metal pool of the same size wouldn’t.

Jennifer Stutts Taylor

So, you buy a $200 pool at Walmart and have to install an $800 fence? Yep, there you go.

Jason Felts

Well, that proposed ordinance regarding pools is basically making the RoadSnacks article more truthful! City of Hamlet, how about work to get more good-paying jobs and industry to this city rather than putting burdensome pool regulations on taxpayers. Come on, folks, Let’s make Hamlet the No. 1 place to live, work and play! Not make it the No. 5 worst place to live in the state.
