TROY — The Rockingham Belles all-star team defeated West Stanly 13-3 Sunday afternoon to capture the District 4 Dixie Softball championship at Peabody Park in Troy.


The Belles will advance to the state tournament in Eden, scheduled for July 4 to 9.


In Monday’s action, the Rockingham Angels cruised to the district title with a 9-0 win over Montgomery County. Jakerra Covington had a two-run triple and scored a run in the third inning for Rockingham.


The Angels will also head to the state tournament in Eden next month.


The Rockingham Ponytails all-star squad also recorded a shutout to win the district championship. The Ponytails downed West Stanly 4-0.


Madison Jordan scored Rockingham’s first run after reaching on a walk and scoring from first on a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error. Ragan Liles had a bases-loaded walk and Savanna Barber notched a two-run single.


The Ponytails will be making a shorter drive for its state tournament. That event is set for July 11 to 16 in Moore County.


In the Darlings division, Anson County scored three runs in the top of the fifth to knock off Rockingham for the district title.


Earlier in the day, Anson routed Montgomery 17-4 to advance to the championship game.
