ROCKINGHAM — Despite its 2-0 record to start the season, the Richmond Senior football team is ranked in the top 10 in just two polls.
Richmond checks in at No. 7 in the CarolinaPreps.com Power Rankings. Vance, Richmond's opponent this week, is ranked eighth.
Mallard Creek is the top team despite its loss to Butler last week. Scotland is second, followed by Butler, New Bern, Independence and East Forsyth. West Forsyth and Wake Forest round out the top 10.
The Raiders are 10th in the MaxPreps.com computer rankings, while the Cougars are 25th. Unlike the other polls with human voters, MaxPreps.com uses a computer program to determine its rankings.
Butler is the No. 1 team according to MaxPreps.com, inching ahead of Mallard Creek. Charlotte Catholic is third, followed by Dudley and Scotland. New Bern, Wake Forest, Mooresville and Millbrook are ranked sixth to ninth, respectively.
In the first Associated Press poll of the year, Richmond was the top school in the “Others receiving 10 or more points” category. Richmond and Charlotte Catholic both received 11 points to tie for 11th.
Butler received 11 of the 12 first-place votes cast this week by AP voters to earn the top spot. Mallard Creek received the other first-place ballot to be ranked No. 2. Scotland is third, Dudley is fourth and New Bern is fifth, followed by Independence and Mooresville. West Forsyth and Middle Creek are tied at No. 8 and Wake Forest is 10th.
Richmond is ranked 11th in the NCPreps.com “Baker's Dozen.”
Butler grabbed all seven of the first-place ballots to be ranked No. 1 according to NCPreps.com. Mallard Creek is second, followed by Scotland, Dudley and New Bern. Independence, West Forsyth, Mooresville, Middle Creek and Wake Forest round out the top 10.
