GREENVILLE — Richmond Senior coach Ricky Young talks about his team never giving up.

He had another example to show Friday night.

Richmond rallied from a seventh-inning deficit to pull out an 8-4 victory over J.H. Rose in the fourth round of the state 4A playoffs. Richmond will face Millbrook (19-9), which downed Panther Creek 5-0.

The Raiders will have home-field advantage in the series and play host in Games 1 and 3. Young said the series will probably start on Tuesday.

“All year long, these guys don’t quit,” Young said. “They don’t get down. They know that it takes 21 outs to win the game.”

Trailing 4-3 going into the top of the seventh, Mike Rush got things going for the Raiders (21-6-1) with a single. He stole second and scored on a double by Nic Bullard to tie the game. Bullard was thrown out at third trying to stretch it into a triple. Bradley Brown walked and courtesy runner Anthony Billingsley stole second. James Buie followed with a single to put runners on first and third.

Ethan Baucom then launched a 3-run home run to left-center to put Richmond up for good. Kevin Lee added a run-scoring single later in the frame to chase home Matt Pettit.

Bullard retired the Rampants (23-3) in the seventh to pick up the complete game victory. Bullard allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out four.

“(Rose coach Ronald) RV (Vincent) is obviously a legend,” Young said. “I respect the heck out of him and his program, but we felt like we could come in here and win. We battled them and I can’t say enough about our guys. We just didn’t quit.”

Bullard added two hits in the win. Both Taylor McLean and Pettit also had two hits. J.D. Clark was 2 of 3 with a home run and two runs batted in for Rose in the loss.
