LUMBERTON — The Richmond Senior boys tennis team has put itself in position for a winner takes all matchup with Pinecrest next week.
But it still has to get past its rival Scotland before hand.
Richmond knocked off Lumberton 6-3 Thursday afternoon to improve to 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Pinecrest is undefeated in conference play and edged Richmond 5-4 in the previous meeting.
Colt Auman, Andrew Balzer, Brandon Ingram and John Pittman were all victorious in their singles matches. Auman defeated Alec Dent 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles contest. Balzer downed Trevor Franklin 6-4, 6-3. Ingram remained undefeated this season in singles, knocking off Jacob Risen 6-1, 6-2. Pittman stopped Thomas Bailey 6-2, 6-2.
Lumberton’s Drew Bollinger defeated Ryan Watkins 6-3, 6-3 and Dominic Dent edged Zach Leberth 5-7, 6-4, 10-5.
In doubles, Balzer and Ingram cruised past Franklin and Risen 8-4. Auman and Pittman beat Alec Dent and Bollinger 8-2. Bailey and Dominic Dent downed Leberth and Watkins 8-4.
Richmond is scheduled to travel to Laurinburg to face Scotland 4 p.m. Monday at the Scotland County Tennis Center.
Richmond boys finish 1st in meet, girls 3rd
RAEFORD — The Richmond Senior boys track and field team took first in a tri-team meet Thursday at Hoke.
Richmond finished with 85 points, Hoke was second with 65 and Pinecrest was third at 47.
The Richmond Senior girls track and field team were third in their half of the meet.
Hoke won the event with a score of 81, Pinecrest was second with 61 points and Richmond totaled 30.
Daesha Everette was first in the shot put and discus. Brianna David took first in the 100-meter hurdles. Richmond’s 4x100 relay team captured first as well. Asiana Douglas was second in the triple jump and Hilda Horthe placed third in the 1,600.
