PEMBROKE — Andrew Balzer and Brandon Ingram won their singles matches without dropping a game to pace Richmond Senior to its second sweep of Southeastern Conference foe Purnell Swett in less than a week.
Balzer defeated Kendrick Locklear 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles contest. Ingram stopped Ranier Harding 6-0, 6-0 for the second straight time at No. 3.
In the top singles match Colt Auman knocked off Dylan Brooks 6-1, 6-0. John Pittman downed Josh Oxendine 6-2, 6-1 and Zach Leberth beat James Hunt 6-2, 6-2.
The fifth singles match was the most competitive of the day as Ryan Watkins edged Matt Basiner 6-0, 4-6, 10-8.
Balzer and Ingram teamed to beat Brooks and Harding 8-1 in doubles. Auman and Pittman blanked Locklear and Oxendine 8-0. The third doubles contest wasn’t contested because Richmond had clinched the victory.
Richmond (8-1 overall, 5-1 in SEC) will travel to Lumberton 4 p.m. today. The Raiders won the earlier meeting 6-3 on March 11.
No changes to baseball, softball games
ROCKINGHAM — Officials at both Richmond Senior and Lumberton wanted to move their baseball and softball contests to Thursday night because of a 60 percent chance of rain Friday.
They were unable to make the switch Richmond athletic director Ricky Young said Wednesday afternoon.
According to Young, the booking agent said he has no umpires available because nearly 60 games were postponed Tuesday and moved to Thursday.
The Richmond baseball team is 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference, while Lumberton will enter the contest 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in league play. Richmond’s softball team is off to a perfect start (10-0, 2-0) this year. Lumberton knocked off Hoke Tuesday night to improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the SEC.
