ROCKINGHAM — Even though Richmond Senior softball coach Wendy Wallace would have preferred to have played Jack Britt and Marlboro Academy this week, she isn’t complaining.

Richmond was set to face Jack Britt Tuesday and Marlboro Academy Thursday, but those games were postponed because of weather. The Raiders and the Buccaneers will now square off 4 p.m. Wednesday at Raider Field. The Raiders and the Dragons will now play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Monday. Wallace said the games in the doubleheader will be five innings.

With those contests shifted to next week, the Raiders will avoid having 10 days off between games. The team’s original schedule had Richmond traveling to Marlboro Academy Monday before heading to West Montgomery on March 20.

Wallace said she attempted to fill the gap in her schedule, but was unable to find any takers.

“I’m glad it worked out like this,” Wallace said. “I tried to get a game but everyone was full that week.”

Wallace added once Tuesday’s game was postponed, it was easy for her and Jack Britt coach Sebrina Wilson to reschedule the second meeting between the two schools this season.

“When I talked to Sebrina she said she only had one game next week too,” Wallace said. “It worked out well.”

The Raiders are 4-0 on the season.

The Richmond-Marlboro Academy softball game wasn’t the only contest to be affected by the weather as the boys tennis match with Purnell Swett was also postponed.

The Raiders and the Rams will hit the courts 4 p.m. March 17 in Rockingham.

Richmond is now set to return to action 4 p.m. Monday at home against South View. The team defeated Southeastern Conference foe Hoke, 8-1, in its only match this season.

At press time, Richmond athletic director Ricky Young said there hasn’t been a decision on Friday’s contests — baseball at Charlotte Christian and girls soccer at home versus Whiteville.

Correction

The Richmond Senior baseball game scheduled for 6 p.m. today against Charlotte Christian will be played in Charlotte and not Raider Field has reported in Thursday’s edition of the Richmond County Daily Journal.

Richmond is scheduled to play West Johnston 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Raider Field.
