ROCKINGHAM — There was a moment when it looked as if the Richmond Senior baseball team might not earn one of the automatic berths into the state 4A playoffs.

That quickly vanished as Richmond reeled off two straight victories to finish second behind Lumberton in the Southeastern Conference regular-season standings. The Raiders would continue their hot streak to capture the conference tournament championship.

To acknowledge those feats, the conference coaches placed five Raiders — all seniors — on the all-SEC team, it was announced this week.

A three-time all-conference selection, Cody Leviner posted a 2-2 record with a 2.16 earned-run average this season. Leviner hurled 55 innings, striking out 66 and issuing seven walks.

As a hitter, Leviner finished with a .303 average with two home runs and eight runs batted in. Leviner had 20 hits, a double, two triples and scored 17 runs. He also added six stolen bases.

Leviner signed a letter of intent to attend Western Carolina in November.

Another multi-time all-conference selection is Ethan Baucom. The future UNCP Brave is a two-time honoree. Baucom hit .338 this season with three home runs and 15 RBIs. He had five doubles, a triple and stole 11 bases.

Joe Butler, Dylan Callahan and Joseph Griffith are all first-time picks.

Butler had a 7-1 record and a save on the mound with a 1.82 ERA. He pitched 50 innings, striking out 74 and issued 14 walks.

Callahan batted .387 with three doubles and 11 runs batted in. Callahan added six stolen bases.

Griffith hit .246, but had a .469 on-base percentage. He had two doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs. He drew 15 walks and was hit by nine pitches.

Lumberton swept the individual honors. Evan Odum was selected as Player of the Year and Paul Hodges was named Coach of the Year.

The Pirates also had five other players named all-conference — Alec Brewington, Raleigh Forrest, Nolan Locklear, Daniel Oxendine and Travis Suggs.

Scotland placed Grant English, Sam Gray, Donta Green and Cross Holfert.

Joe Lewis, Zach Martinez and Nik Pry represented Pinecrest.

Purnell Swett’s Mattihas Carter and Lucas Oxendine were placed on the all-SEC team. Hoke had a lone representative — Jacob Rushing.
