James Edward “Ed” Watson, 75, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at Sandhills Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Scotland County on March 23, 1938. He was the son of the late Vernon and Madie McDonald Watson.
Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Sweet Haven Church. He was the owner and operator of Watson’s TBA for many years in Hoffman and retired as jailer from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
He loved southern gospel and bluegrass music. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his daughters. When performing, they were known as The Watson Family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, William, Donald and Randy Watson.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mabel Watson; three daughters, Cindy Watson Spratt and her husband Stowe of Monroe, Loria Watson Dawkins and her husband Phil of Rockingham and Debbie Watson Blake and her husband Ronnie of Rockingham; six grandchildren, Joshua Spratt, Jason Dawkins and his wife Beth, Jarrod Dawkins and his wife Tara, Robbie Blake and his wife Brandi, Eddie Shelley and his wife Sabrina and Kelli Blake and her fiancé Steve Franklin Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Laney and Logan Dawkins and Paisley Blake.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sweet Haven Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sweet Haven Church with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating.
Interment will follow services in Northam Cemetery Extension.
