ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County employers are invited to participate in a competition among the business community to see whose workers can take the most steps in the RichmondFit — Ready, Set, Walk! Challenge.

Organizers encourage businesses, government agencies and nonprofit groups to take part in the challenge to improve the health of Richmond County’s work force and win prizes.


Step 1: All employers must first register their company to participate by emailing company name, number of employees and primary contact name and email address to rmelliott@firsthealth.org. Deadline to register a company is Sept. 17.

Step 2: Once a company has registered, or if you have participated in the past, employees can register individually at www.richmondfit.org and link to their employer beginning Sept. 17.

Step 3: Beginning Sept. 22, individuals can begin to log activities. Individuals who reach 150,000 by Oct. 27 will be eligible for the final prize drawing. Small and large businesses with greatest average steps will be recognized, in addition to the top three individuals. Participants must be present at the celebration event to win.

The RichmondFit — Ready, Set, Walk Employer Fitness Challenge will take place from Sept. 22-Oct. 27.

The kickoff event will be from 5:15 to 6:16 p.m. Sept. 17 at Cole Plaza in downtown Rockingham and will include a one-mile fun walk to kick 0ff the challenge.
