JACKSON SPRINGS — Firefighters rushed to free a person pinned inside the cab of an overturned log truck Wednesday near the Richmond-Montgomery county line.
The tractor-trailer flipped onto its side shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Pooles Mill and Windblow roads outside Candor in rural Montgomery County.
Dispatchers called for a rescue helicopter to fly the trapped occupant to the hospital.
Candor firefighters, FirstHealth paramedics and state troopers rushed to the scene. The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
Richmond County sheriff’s deputies and volunteer firefigters from Richmond County also responded. The crash site is roughly a mile from the county line.
The narrow two-lane roads were closed at the Pooles Mill-Windblow intersection as first responders worked the scene. Logs from the truck’s trailer blocked portions of both lanes on Windblow Road.
Highway Patrol and Richmond sheriff’s cruisers lined the grassy median on Pooles Mill Road along with a collection of cars and trucks belonging to volunteer firefighters.
Some first responders had difficulty finding the intersection and asked a 911 dispatcher for directions, according to radio traffic. Pooles Mill Road changes names to Research Farm Road after it crosses Windblow.
