ROCKINGHAM — A historical marker installed Tuesday morning marks the second stage of a project to restore Richmond County’s 1890 courthouse bell.

A work crew from Custom Monument in Rockingham installed the granite marker in front of the bell on the 1924 courthouse lawn facing Lee Street and the new Richmond County Judicial Center.

The Richmond County Historical Society will hold a dedication ceremony for the bell at a later date. The installation of the restored bell and marker was made possible with a grant from the Cole Foundation.
