HAMLET — Four women and a teenager are accused of stealing from the Food Lion and Family Dollar stores in Hamlet.

Police arrested the five suspects at Family Dollar after Hamlet police Capt. Rodney Tucker said officers caught them in the act. A customer reported the alleged Food Lion theft to employees who called police.

Officers charged 22-year-old Shakera Jenkins, 21-year-old Courtney Sturdivant and 30-year-old Ebany Williams, all of Rockingham, and 20-year-old Lashonda Jenkins of Hamlet with one count each of misdemeanor larceny and larceny by shoplifting.

Police did not release the juvenile’s name but said he or she also had been charged in both thefts.

In her arrest photo, Shakera Jenkins is shown wearing a necklace with the word “notorious.”

Officers investigating the Hamlet thefts learned that the five suspects also had stolen from a Rockingham business, Tucker said. Police recovered the merchandise and returned it to the Food Lion and Family Dollar.
