HOFFMAN — Firefighters and medics have scheduled a fundraiser for a volunteer firefighter recovering from a brain tumor that will take place Saturday.
Andy Sampson is a registered nurse in the operating room at Scotland Memorial Hospital, a paramedic and a volunteer firefighter. He woke up one morning with what he thought was a migraine and learned a brain tumor the size of a baseball was causing the intense pain.
After a successful surgery to remove the tumor, he was on a ventilator for five days and spent three weeks in rehab.
A fundraiser for Sampson will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hoffman Fire Department and Rescue Squad’s Marston station at 2279 U.S. 1 North in the Marston community. Proceeds will help Sampson and his family with medical and living expenses while he is out of work.
Barbecue and chicken plates will be available for $7 each.
