ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina woman wanted on felony charges in Richmond County for more than five years was arrested by Scotland County deputies late last month.

According to an arrest warrant, Jermonica Keyvonne Purnell stole a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice with South Carolina tags that belonged to another woman in 2010.

Court documents show addresses for Purnell in Columbia and Hamer, South Carolina.

The warrant, dated July 1, 2010, also states that Purnell sold the vehicle — valued at $3,600 — to Fortress Metals, Inc. for $380, knowing it was stolen and she had no permission to sell it. The incident allegedly took place between April 17 and 19 of that year.

Purnell, 29, was arrested by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 29 on one felony count each of larceny of a motor vehicle and obtaining property by false pretenses.

She was booked into the Scotland County Jail under a $1,000 secured bond and had an appearance in Richmond County District Court scheduled for Oct. 2. Her next appearance is set for Nov. 5.

Online court records show Purnell is also facing felony charges of breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle and possession of stolen goods, as well as a count of misdemeanor larceny in Scotland County.

She has no past criminal convictions in this state, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
