ELLERBE — Business owner Jeff Vuncannon has been appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to serve on the Richmond Community College Board of Trustees.

A native of Richmond County, Vuncannon said he looks forward to serving on the board and feels his experience running a business will assist him in making decisions to lead Richmond Community College into the future. A 1982 graduate of North Carolina State University, Vuncannon has worked at his family’s farm supply business, E.E. Vuncannon, for more than 30 years.

“Being born and raised in Richmond County, I’ve seen a lot of things change over the years, but the one opportunity that has always been at the forefront has been for students to earn an exceptional education at Richmond Community College,” said Vuncannon. “And I would like to help any way I can to maintain that.”

RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis welcomed Vuncannon to his first board meeting held Nov. 17 at the Honeycutt Center in Laurinburg.

“I appreciate the governor appointing Jeff to our board,” McInnis said. “He has great business experience and deep roots in our county. He will bring a great deal to the table, making our college and board stronger.”

During the Nov. 17 meeting, Vuncannon was provided with a tour and information about the air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology program, also known as HVAC, offered at the Honeycutt Center. He said he’s also extremely impressed with RichmondCC’s premiere electric utility substation and relay technology program that has a 100 percent job placement rate, along with its programs in health care, business, education and law enforcement.

“Being new to the board, I’m still learning the many things RichmondCC has to offer,” said Vuncannon. “I’ve been very impressed with the many career opportunities that are available through the college.”

Vuncannon and his wife, Jill, have two sons, Luke and Jake. Jake is an alumnus of Richmond Community College.
