HAMLET — Richmond Community College has entered a formal agreement with Walden University that will allow RCC students completing a two-year degree in business administration or early childhood education to continue their studies by working toward a bachelor’s degree online at a reduced cost.

The agreement signed earlier this month will result in RCC students receiving a 10 percent tuition reduction on Walden University classes. Participants may also be eligible for additional tuition offers or other benefits made available by Walden.

“This agreement strengthens two of our growing online programs by allowing students already on their way to an associate’s degree to continue advancing their education at an affordable cost,” said RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis. “This is a viable transfer option for students who may have work or family responsibilities because they can complete the programs online.”

According to the agreement, all RCC credits will be converted to the equivalent value for Walden credit. The agreement does not guarantee any RCC student admission into Walden.

Walden University was founded in 1970 by two teachers who sought a way for adults in the workforce to pursue their doctoral degrees. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees online. Areas of study include health sciences, counseling, human services, management, psychology, education, public health, nursing, public administration and information technology. RCC’s partnership with Walden is one of many similar agreements the college has with private universities. RCC also offers seamless transfer pathways to all 16 public schools in the University of North Carolina System.

Additional information about transfer opportunities available through RCC may be found online at www.richmondcc.edu/admissions/transfers.
