To the editor:
For all of the unseen and unknown people that have, and are still working diligently behind the scenes of this snow and ice storm in Richmond County, which are so seldom recognized, I would like to take this opportunity to definitely recognize and thank the people that have no choice but to do so, and are definitely putting their lives at risk for us who don’t think about them probably until we need them.
This would be thank you so much to all of the personnel of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Rockingham Police Department, Hamlet Police Department, all of Richmond County fire departments, all volunteer fire departments, all volunteer rescue departments, all of the behind the scenes personnel of 911 operators, each department’s dispatchers, DOT, power departments, all the Humvee Vehicle owners/drivers for volunteering their vehicles and personal service, all departments involved in organizing and setting up Shelters for people in need of a place to stay warm and safe, hospitals — doctors, nurses andother personnel, and anyone who also took it upon themselves to check on someone they know to make sure their OK.
I know other counties also assisted when they were called. Thanks to all of them. I’m sure everyone I have mentioned worked lots of overtime to serve us. Lord if I forgot anyone at all, many thanks go out to you also. Think people, all I have mentioned have families of their own that I’m sure they thought about often while they are doing what they had to do, knowing they left them to do the best they can while they are serving thousands of other people, which is you and me. God Bless them for that also.
Many, Many times all of these people are taken for granted, criticized, and people think they don’t do enough to earn their pay by the city and county, or state funds that you contribute to. Well, if you do, then you need to think again. Especially when you might have to call them sometimes for help. Think about all of the people that volunteer, use their own money for gas, etc.
You may need them some day, too. They will be there, I promise you. Each and everyone should to be thanked in your heart, and thought about often instead of waiting until times like these, or when you need them and then you say “thank you so much for your help.”
Thank you, thank you for all your excellent work and sacrifices. I wonder how many people would do this. I worked law enforcement for over 30 years and know each and every one of these people are going through.
I would love to see others thank all these hundreds of people in Richmond County (through a letter to the editor like me). We’ll see!
