To the editor:
This letter is in reference to the article “Gay marriage ban on shaky ground,” which appeared in the paper on Tuesday, Aug. 12. What good is it for us to go to the polls and vote if our vote is going to be overturned by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Virginia, which is the appellate court which has jurisdiction over North Carolina?
Also. our state attorney general, Roy Cooper, has said he would not defend the constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. Sixty-one percent of North Carolina voters favored this amendment. Gays are only 1.6 percent of our national population, so why are our representatives showing so much favor to them and against the voters of North Carolina?
Never is there stressed the negative side of being gay. I had a cousin who was gay and he had anal cancer which resulted in his death, and many die from AIDS. How can there be two husbands in a marriage? Marriage is between one man and one woman. Their unions should be called something other than marriage.
