ELLERBE — The attire of the day was boots, coveralls and, well, if you didn’t have a tractor or horse — or at least a bale of hay — you might have felt slightly out of place.
Somehow, though, everyone fit in just fine, though, at the 18th annual Farmers Parade in Ellerbe. The key place for along the parade route, as far as chasing candy thrown from the dozens of entries in the convoy of classic cars, floats, horses, mini-cars, racing lawnmowers, youth groups and more, was anywhere one had a direct path to where the candy hit the ground.
The celebration of agriculture in Richmond County, and its impact on the local economy, was on full display from start to finish.
And though the sky darkened, no rain fell during the 40-minute event. It continued the parade’s streak of no rain on parade day.
