Legal Aid of North Carolina and Richmond Memorial Hospital are joining forces to help those with questions on the Affordable Care Act.
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, anyone who has questions about the Affordable Care Act can attend a free presentation in the cafeteria of Richmond Memorial Hospital, 925 Long Drive, Rockingham.
Sean Driscoll, from Legal Aid of North Carolina, said that the presentation date was released on Monday his office expects to field plenty of calls this week. Navigators, who are trained to help consumers understand the Affordable Care Act, are expecting to field questions on how to apply and how to navigate the Health Insurance Marketplace during one-on-one briefings after the 10 a.m. group presentation.
There are only 20 slots available for individual appointments with navigators, but anyone can attend the presentation. Anyone who isn’t able to get an appointment on Saturday can meet with navigators from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Jan. 15.
In 2013, Legal Aid applied for a grant and as a part of the NC Community Care Network, received a portion of a $1.98 million grant in August. This goes towards training navigators and presentations across the 100 counties of North Carolina.
David Richardson, a lawyer from Legal Aid’s Pittsboro office, said they’re hoping for between 25 and 30 people but don’t have an estimate yet.
“It will be a PowerPoint presentation which will go through and talk about the Affordable Care Act and then explain it,” Richardson said. “Questions can then be answered and then consumers can then meet with with navigators to enroll.”
Legal Aid of NC has been handling appointments since October at the Rockingham satellite office, but are expecting a much bigger turnout this Saturday. There will be five navigators on site, but interested parties must preregister by making an appointment.
