HAMLET — A group of volunteers came together last month to help build porches for two Richmond County families.

The lastest Thrivent Spring Fix-Up was last Saturday at the Hamlet home of Mary Washington. The volunteers made of members of local Baptist and Lutheran churches, repaired Washington’s porch and stairs and added a ramp.

On April 5, the same gorup also help install a new porch and ramp at the home of Reese and Ruby Maxy’s home in Dobbins Heights.

Reese Maxy is a 95-year-old World War II veteran. The Maxys’ grandson, Mike, helped with the repair work.
