ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County teenager is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in two counties, accused of stealing a vehicle and assaulting a woman in Southern Pines earlier this month.
According to the Southern Pines Police Department, charges for 17-year-old Darius Shrikee Toomer stem from a robbery incident that occurred at Pinecrest Plaza on Tuesday, April 11, which was investigated by the patrol and investigation divisions of the Southern Pines Police Department.
No details about the incident were released.
Police had Toomer’s middle name as “Shakee” in the release, but court and jail records show it as “Shrikee.”
Toomer is charged with one felony count each of common law robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle, as well as a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female in Moore County.
He is also facing felony charges of possession of a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine in Richmond County.
Toomer was arrested Monday , appeared before a Richmond County magistrate and booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond. He was still in jail just before 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
He is scheduled to appear in court April 27 on the Richmond County charges and May 9 on the Moore County charges.
“This arrest is the result of a comprehensive collaborative investigation conducted by the Southern Pines Police Department and the Rockingham Police Department,” Capt. Charles Campbell of the Southern Pines Police Department said in a release.
Online court records show Toomer has no other pending charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Toomer has no previous adult convictions in the state.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
