ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Tourism Development Authority’s museum is showcasing a military collection for the month of July, and as a part of that, will host a military appreciation night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
The museum — located at 101 West Broad Avenue in Rockingham — will feature mannequins decked out in uniforms from local residents who served in the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Army spread throughout the building, as well as pictures, medals, documents, war rations, coins, news articles, certificates, Confederate money and a 1917 U.S. Calvary saddle bag.
Memorabilia from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War will all be represented. Tourism Development Authority Executive Director Kelly Pruett said they chose July because it’s the birth month of the nation.
“We will be showcasing Richmond County military history, past and present, throughout the entire month of July,” she said. “We wish to honor and thank our veterans and current servicemen and women for their dedication and service and sacrifice to our great country.”
