LAURINBURG — Police are looking for a suspect after a Sunday shooting left a man in critical condition.

Hikeem Dewon Covington, 25, is wanted by the Laurinburg Police Department after police responded to a shooting around 4 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Hood and Gamble streets.

Officials say Covington was arguing with two men, Tyrone and Jerome Norris. He allegedly struck Tyrone Norris in the head with a pistol and shot Jerome Norris.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from some type of feud.

Covington drove away in a white car, possibly a Nissan Altima, with an unknown black male driver, according to police.

Tyrone Norris was treated and released from the Scotland Memorial Hospital and Jerome Norris is still in the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police obtained arrest warrants for Covington on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, discharging a firearm within city limits and assault.

The case is still under investigation and police ask anyone with information on Covington’s whereabouts to come forward.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jeremey White at 910-291-1752.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

Covington is also wanted by N.C. Probation and Parole as an absconder from post-release supervision . There is an order for arrest and failure to appear on his record.

In the past, he has been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into an occupied property, possession of firearm by a felon, assault inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm in property causing serious injury, two counts of possessing stolen goods and assault with a deadly weapon.
