ROCKINGHAM — The race for Richmond County’s state Senate seat is on Raleigh’s radar.Republican leaders hope to replace Sen. Gene McLaurin, D-Richmond, with GOP school board member Tom McInnis while Democrats work to retain the Republican-leaning District 25. Libertarian candidate P.H. Dawkins of Hamlet has also thrown his hat into the ring.The state Democratic and Republican parties have blanketed the five-county district with mailers, and pollsters and pundits say the race between McLaurin and McInnis is too close to call. Senate District 25 consists of Richmond, Scotland, Anson and Stanly counties and a portion of Rowan County.


Seaboard Festival on track
