Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate 120th anniversary Sunday

The church was first organized in 1874 as Sidney Grove First Baptist Church and was rebuilt in 1964. The current church was organized in 1989 and Bethel Church was erected in 1991.

SATURDAY

PEE DEE METHODIST CHURCH will host its monthly country breakfast from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Price is $6 for all-you-can-eat of three meats, eggs, grits, sausage gravy and homemade biscuits. All law enforcement, fire departments and EMS personnel are invited to eat as guests.

FREEDOM BAPTIST CHURCH, 987 U.S. 1 N., Rockingham, will have its men’s brotherhood breakfast at 9 a.m.

FAITH ASSEMBLY OUTREACH MINISTRIES, 148 Daniels St., Hamlet, will continue its revival fire with noon day prayer and nightly services at 7 p.m. until Sept. 21. Remaining guest speakers include Evangelist Wayne Morrison, Evangelist Sarah Crosby, Evangelist Lizzie Jackson, Apostle Daniel White and Apostle Joann Davis.

SUNDAY

MOUNT OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH, 596 East Washington St. Ext., Rockingham, will celebrate its 86th homecoming beginning with Sunday school at 10 a.m. followed by worship service at 11. The guest speaker will be Delane Burris from Grace Baptist Church in Albemarle. A covered dish luncheon will follow at noon and will be held in the multipurpose building. Also needed are pictures of family members to share on a designated table in the multipurpose building. These photographs can include ministers, teachers, school classes or the church’s founding fathers.

ST. LUKE NO. 2 FREE WILL BAPTIST CHURCH, 119 Morrow St., Hamlet, will have Pastor Darrell McSween preach its 10:30 a.m. morning service. The public is invited.

CARTLEDGE CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH, Rockingham, will celebrate its homecoming during the 11 a.m. morning worship. A covered dish meal will be served following the service. Revival services will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 18 and at 7 p.m. nightly Sept. 19-21 with guest speaker C.J. Bordeaux, director of missions at Pee Dee Baptist Association.

ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 311 Marlboro St., Hamlet, will gather at 11 a.m. for its 13th annual outdoor worship and church picnic on the grounds. A more informal service will include favorite hymns and the sharing of Holy Communion. The service is held on the church grounds near the parking field. MACEDONIA MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH will celebrate its 120th church anniversary along with is annual men’s day at 11 a.m. Various activities will take place to commemorate the anniversary. Music will be provided by the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church male chorus. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the services.

PRAYER AND FAITH TEMPLE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST, 217 Thomas St., Hamlet, will celebrate its homecoming at 11 a.m. with host pastor Dr. Tommy R. Legrand. FRIENDSHIP MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Pastor Roy Linseby of Garris Grove Baptist Church in Wadesboro.

HOLLY GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 401 Holly Grove Church Road, Rockingham, will celebrate its 56th usher anniversary at 3 p.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Melvin Ingram of Snead Grove AME Zion Church in Ellerbe. All ushers are asked to wear white.

There will be dancing, singing, horseshoes, cake sampling and raffle, bingo, hot dogs, hamburgers, fish, ice cream and drinks and face painting.
