JUNE 28

DOBBINS HEIGHTS TOWN COUNCIL has called a council meeting for June 28 at 11 a.m. The purpose of this meeting is to hire a lifeguard and maintenance person.

THE ROCKINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL Class of 1947 will celebrate their 65th anniversary with lunch at Pat’s Kitchen on Thursday, June 28, at 11:30 a.m. Out of 93 graduates that year, 52 of them are no longer with us. Upper and lower classmates are invited and welcome to join.

MONTHLY BREAKFAST - Hamlet First United Church will serve its monthly breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.; full breakfast with juice and coffee for $5. Biscuits and gravy included. Handicapped parking and access.

JULY 4

4TH OF JULY JAMBOREE at the Ellerbe Lions Club. Gates open at 10 a.m. There will be performances by the Backlash Bluegrass Band, Vickie Daniel, Van Haggard Country Rock, Quicksilver Clogers, Dixie Still Band, and more. The event will have several activities including watermelon races, train rides, face painting and bouncers. Food concessions will be available. Admission is $5 for ages 13 years and up; $3 for ages 5-13. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair. Plenty of parking available. Fireworks will begin at dark.

4TH OF JULY FAMILY FUN DAY IN HAMLET - Located on Main Street from 5 p.m. until after the fireworks. Music will be presented by Ponder Blue. There will be a dunking booth, corn hole, tricycle race, rubber obstacle course and slide, watermelon eating contest, clowns and balloons. Tour the Depot Museum and Annex (Tornado Building). Hamburgers/hot dogs, soft drinks, funnel cakes, shaved ice, ice cream and nachos will be for sale. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the fireworks beginning at 9 p.m.

HAMLET SENIOR CENTER HOLIDAY SCHEDULE - Open 8 to 12 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Nutrition Site open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Closed Wednesday, July 4.

BOJANGLES’ EAST ROCKINGHAM MEN’S CLUB SHARE NIGHT on Thursday, July 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Ten percent of sales will benefit East Rockingham Men’s Club.

PEE DEE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH will have a country buffet breakfast from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Cost is $5 per person.

THE HART FAMILY REUNION will be held July 6 and 7 starting on Friday night at the Beaver Dam Community center with a fish fry at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s portion will be held at the Parks and Recreational Building, 106 Thompson St., with dinner from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and will return back to Beaver Dam Community center for games, senior activities and dance. The family will worship on Sunday at Fletcher’s Chapel during morning worship at 11 a.m.

PRETTY-AS-A-PEACH DAY on July 7 in Derby at Triple L Farms, 2205 Derby Road. Lots of delicious peaches, corn, tomatoes, melons…plus an inspirational patriotic program by John Webb at 12 p.m. and a quilt show by local artisans beginning at 11 a.m. Triple L Farms asks that you join them for lots of old-time fun. COUNTRY BREAKFAST at Spring Hill Wesleyan Church from 7 to 10 a.m. All you can eat for $5. 1st Saturday of every month. Carry out plates available. Phone: 582-5150. Everyone is invited and welcome. The church is located off of Hwy. 38 on Spring Hill Church Road, Hamlet. Funds raised will go for future projects and to help those in need.

KIDS DAY AT THE ROCK - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rockingham Dragway. Youth must be accompanied by at least one adult. One adult is admitted free with every youth between the ages of 6 and 17 (limit 3 kids per adult). Special performances by “Miko,” RHA Step Team, guest speakers and motorcycle stunts. 2012 CHHS-MAHS Reunion Committee will meet on July 10 at 6 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hamlet. All alumni are welcome.

NAACP MONTHLY MEETING will be held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 177 N., Dobbins Heights. Meeting begins at 7:30 pm. The group invites all members and interested persons to attend. “We need everyone to come and help our organization.”

EAST ROCKINGHAM UNITED METHODIST CHURCH MEN’S CLUB will sponsor a Pancake Breakfast Saturday, July 14 from 7 to 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Charge is $4 for all you can eat. A sweets and crafts sale will be held at the same time.

THE NORTH CAROLINA YOUTH SHOOTING FOUNDATION (NCYSF) is open for students grade 4 to grade 12. Practices will be held at Dewitt’s on the Monday before the tournament at 6 p.m. The next tournament will be July 14 at DeWitt’s. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., shooting starts at 10 a.m. WARM-UP 15 birds for $5. Rookie will be shooting the 5 stand. Intermediate and Advanced will be shooting the course. ALL shooters will be shooting 50 birds for $15. Please come out and be involved! We need donations and sponsors. AARP DRIVER SAFETY’S 2012 EDUCATOR APPRECIATION PROMOTION - The Hamlet Senior Center will host the four-hour training class in refining existing driving skills and developing defensive driving techniques on Tuesday, July 24 beginning at 10 a.m. to individuals who have been an educator, or have worked for a school district or university in any capacity. This includes everyone from custodians, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, guidance counselors, band directors, school nurses, Sunday school teachers, cafeteria workers, and even parents who home-school their children. To redeem the $5 course offer, participants are required to fill out a coupon and provide any form of educator identification. PIRATES VOYAGE FUN, FEAST & ADVENTURE DINNER/SHOW - Venture out into the great unknown when you see the Pirates Voyage Fun, Feast & Adventure, which features two full-sized pirate ships, a live action battle for a mysterious treasure and a 15-foot deep lagoon and truly an adventurous meal on Tuesday, July 31 departing at 1 p.m. for matinee performance at 4 p.m. Cost is $70 per person and includes: transportation, show and dinner. Deadline is Tuesday, July 17 for cost of trip to be paid.

COLORING CONTEST - Join the Hamlet Depot & Museums and Operation Lifesaver for the Inaugural “Stay Back From the Tracks!” Coloring Contest for Kids. Come to the Hamlet Visitors Center to pick up an “Operation Lifesaver Coloring Book.” Color your favorite picture and submit it to Miranda at the Hamlet Visitors Center by July 31.
