ROCKINGHAM — The Humane Society of Richmond County has several pets available for adoption. Adopting a pet is easy, and you could find your new best friend at the Richmond County Animal Shelter on U.S. 74 West.

All pets are up to date on their shots, but are not spayed or neutered. Pets 4 months old and under can be adopted for $25. The adoption fee for pets 4 months old and up is $40.

Richmond County residents are eligible to apply for cost assistance for spay and neuter services. For those who qualify, the price is $32 for any animal they adopt.

Cindy Chambers of the Richmond County Animal Shelter said that most people living in Richmond County probably qualify for the discount. People who bring documentation showing they receive food stamps or Medicare automatically qualify, others can bring in their W-2s. A two-person household can earn up to about $63 per year and qualify, Chambers said.

Regular fees for spay and neuter services are $47 for male cats, $57 for female cats and $77 for all dogs.
