ROCKINGHAM — Ashton Davenport hit a solo home run and Chelsea Davis added a two-run shot to provide pitcher Summer Jacobs all the offense she would need.
Jacobs allowed four hits and struck out a career-high 15 as Richmond blanked Lumberton 6-0 Friday night. The Raiders improved to 11-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference. The Pirates dropped to 2-7 on the year and 1-2 in the SEC.
“Summer pitched a heckuva game,” Richmond coach Wendy Wallace said. “The girls hit the ball well tonight and we scored early.”
Eight of Richmond’s players recorded at least one hit in the game and finished with 10 overall. Jennifer Steen and Doodle Jacobs both had two hits in the victory.
Richmond will return to action 7 p.m. Monday when it travels to Union Pines.
Vikings blank Raiders
CAMERON — The Richmond Senior girls soccer team dropped its second straight contest, both by shutout.
This time Union Pines blanked Richmond, pulling away for an 8-0 victory Friday night. The Vikings led 5-0 at halftime.
“It was the same story as the other night, we didn’t mark up,” Richmond coach Bennie Howard said. “We aren’t taking what we work on in practice and using it in a game.”
Richmond (2-5-1) will return to Southeastern Conference play 7 p.m. Monday when it heads back to Moore County to face Pinecrest.
