To the editor:
I read with great pleasure about the city of Rockingham building a restaurant on Washington Street for the folks visiting Discovery Place KIDS. I think this will be a great asset for downtown Rockingham, and look forward to its completion.
I’m very disappointed in our city fathers in the fact that we plan to raise almost $1 million for this project, yet we cannot do a thing about our homeless people. You would think that Rockingham as a whole would have more passion for the down and out humans living under it’s bridges.
“There go I except by the Grace of God”! This is an expression that I have heard many times and I believe it.
Our city and county have several building around that are not being used fully. Wouldn’t it be nice if some of these could be used to get these men and women in a warmer facility, with a roof over their head?
I admit that I haven’t done as much as I should to help, but I have done some and look forward to doing much more.
Instead of blocking efforts to feed these down and out humans, maybe our city can do something to help! It’s terrible when our churches are not allowed to set up a table for prepared food, or even disperse from the back of vehicles.
