‘Tis the season for outdoor nativity scenes.
This weekend will see not one but two outdoor live nativity programs, presented by Mount Olive Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Hamlet.
Mount Olive is presenting “Live Scenes of Christ Drive-Thru”on Washington Street in Rockingham. Showtime begins at 6 p.m. both today and Saturday.
Drivers will be instructed to enter through a special lit up entrance where they will be handed a CD to place in their CD player which explains each scene and when to go on to the next one. There are seven scenes altogether, with 100 people from the church and live animals participating. With as many as 40 church members in a scene, its easy to categorize this as a large production.
Mount Olive has requested food donations in lieu of selling tickets, and there will be refreshments after the program. In case of bad weather the church will put an announcement on its Facebook page and church voicemail as to when the make up date will be. That number to call is 910-895-9670.
At First Baptist Church of Hamlet, located on Charlotte Street, you’ll find a live nativity scene including a real baby in a manger, real camel, donkey and sheep. The story of the birth of Christ will be read by Pastor Randy Bishop as the choir and soloists sing Christmas hymns. In between shows, soup and sandwiches will be served inside while hot apple cider and hot chocolate will be outside.
Presentations are scheduled to begin tonight at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
First Baptist Hamlet is putting on the program and providing refreshments free of charge to the public. In the event of bad weather, call 910-582-1164 for a rescheduling date.
