CHAPEL HILL — The Richmond Senior football will be making a trek to uncharted territory in its opening round playoff contest.
Richmond, which finished third in the Southeastern Conference, and earned the No. 11 in the 4AA East bracket will travel to Mooresville to take on Lake Norman, the sixth seed, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“We have no information on them yet,” Richmond coach Paul Hoggard said Saturday afternoon after the brackets were finalized. “We have never been there before. We have traded films on Hudl and I have looked at briefly. We will come back tomorrow and start to game plan.”
The Raiders closed out the regular season with a 49-14 loss at arch-rival Scotland to finish 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the SEC.
Lake Norman had its seven-game winning streak snapped in a 35-31 loss at Mooresville. The Wildcats posted an 8-3 season mark and were second in the North Piedmont Conference with a 6-1 record.
Two other SEC teams earned a berth in the postseason. Scotland grabbed the No. 1 seed in the 4A East bracket and will take on Heritage Friday, while Pinecrest is the fourth seed in the 4AA East and will face Laney in the first round.
