Lorena Cornelia “Connie” Gibson Lathan, 82, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Richmond County Hospice Haven.
She was born in Richmond County on June 9, 1931. She was the daughter of Archie Clinton and Lucy May Seago Gibson.
She graduated from Ellerbe High School. Connie was a homemaker most of her life, was a teacher’s assistant and worked with the Head Start program. She was also a faithful active member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Lathan; sister, Frances Rowell; and brother, Joe Gibson.
Survivors include her children, Lilly Lathan Blue (Danny) of Clemson, Fred Lathan (and Debbie Taylor) of Rockingham, Ted Lathan of Rockingham, Joanna Lathan of Hamlet, Connie Lathan Parker (and William “Bo”) of Cordova and C.L. Lathan (and Allison Usrey) of Hamlet; grandchildren, Stacie Lathan Perkins (and Gary Drennan) and Dawn Blue Davis (and Matt) of Anderson; great-grandchildren, Tripp Stewart and Carson Davis; sisters, Betty Johnson, Mabel Polk and Docia Bridwell; brothers, Reese Gibson and Albert Gibson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of their daughter Connie Parker, 158 Center St. in Cordova.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at West Rockingham United Methodist Church. Rev. Ben Horton will be officiating.
Entombment will follow services at Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
